All About my Advocacy

Consumer Power leaves Animal Testing in Our Hands

Heeeello my lovelies!! I cant believe it has nearly been one month since I last posted a blog.. whaaaaat?? That's been way to long I'm super sorry, however my life hasn't been that exciting.. actually I don't think nothing has really changed I've just been doing the same old.. spreading the word of the magic facemask from The Body Shop, naw I'm only joking hahaha!! Naw like I actually need to stop now or I'm going to loose readers as to the much I talk about that mask haha. Anyways today my blog is going to be a little bit different incase you couldn't tell from the powerful title at the top, it might not interest some of you when I go to speak about animal cruelty and animal testing and what not, it is a topic so overlooked and that is what I want to change within my advocacy as Richmond Centre Miss Earth Derry City 2017. Of course I have a lovely new product to introduce to you all before I get into the details of my advocacy and how I want to go about making a change.

I'm suuuuuper excited to tell you all about my new wee hidden gem I found. A couple of weeks ago I was sitting on my phone generally thinking about the blog and about my skin and what not, I was like 'well I've found an amazing mask which literally does everything for my skin and until I find a miracle worker for blackheads, what could I possibly tell my readers about in my next blog?' It then trigger me to think about my skincare routine on a weekly basis and I was looking on Pintrest and a little post about an exfoliator came up. I don't know about any of you, but before I bought this next product I would have never even thought about exfoliating. Don't get me wrong I always exfoliate my body so hard that my skin is raw red when I'm trying to get tan off, but my face .. not so much. So anyways I took a little adventure into Boots .. you know? The norm for me these days. I came across the brand 'Sukin' what actually caught my eye was the bold writing at the bottom of all their products stating 'SKINCARE WHICH DOESN'T COST THE EARTH'.. wooooowzer!! I was like 'oh yes lets see what this is', as soon as I flipped to the back of the bottle it stated very clearly ' No Animal Derivatives, 100% Vegan and No Animal Testing' as of recently this is everything I look for in a cosmetic, therefore it was sold to me immediately! I chose the facial scrub which was detoxifying as I felt it would be best for my skin as I get clogged pores regularly. The only slightly downside about this product was that it was £9.95 again quiet expensive for a facial scrub, however the change you are making as a consumer when you chose to buy from a brand which supports no animal testing, far outweighs the slight price difference than that of a cheaper brand which supports animal testing.. just think about that for a minute. Anyways enough chatting about my tough decision making standing in the middle of Boots and get to the point, I went home that night and tired it on my skin. I used Primark's finest exfoliating gloves to apply the scrub on my face which was towel patted dry after lightly washing it with warm water. There is no need to leave the scrub on your face for a lengthy time as it is working best when you are massaging it into your face and neck using the gloves however, you know me I love to drag a skincare routine out so I let the product sit on my face for just two to three minutes. Again using the gloves I rinsed my hands in warm water continuing to massage the product into my face whilst also slowly removing it. Well girls (and boys.. I'm not judging) .. the results were amazing after one use my skin literally felt so soft and refreshed. For the first week I got addicted to the scrub and was using it every second day because I just loved it, but there is no need for use that often when it comes to exfoliating, you only need to exfoliate once or twice a week. Girls I have been using the Himalayan mask for weeks now and it is amazing and really helps my skin, but see the change of using a wee exfoliator often alongside the mask.. outstanding. The week I brought the srcub I didn't really wear makeup to college or work and the many people said to me 'Your skin is looking amazing!' I was actually so happy because it was a product that I didn't think would have made a massive difference to my skincare routine, however it pleasantly surprised me!!

The facial scrub is the only new product I have really had the chance to try out within the last month, however I will be finishing college soon and I will have you all overloaded with products to try all summer. I want to move on to speak about my advocacy for the Richmond Centre's Miss Earth NI 2017 and what I want to change as an individual on my journey through the pageant. Before the pageant I always aware of animal cruelty and how horrible it was however I didn't know that much about it, and when it came to buying products I always just assumed that the bigger brands would not support animal testing. This is not always the case, animal testing is not banned everywhere in the world and after my research through the PETA website I found that within Europe in 2017 there are still over 11.5 million animals being tested on each year?? This is actually shocking and an eye opener for me and I'm sure for many others out there. All you have to do is go to YouTube and type in 'Animal Testing' to be able to see the absolutely horrific tests that are carried out on animals to be able to distinguish if a product is 'safe' for the use of humans. This is NOT scientific experiments animals have feelings just like humans do, therefore when they are being tortured in metal cages they feel just how we would, scared and overwhelmed. Us and animals all have similar natural instincts our main aim in life is to live, be free and protect ourselves and our families What gives us as humans the right to lock a poor rabbit or monkey or any animal in a cage and use them for 'experimental' purposes? There a bunnies used in labs every day to test different mascara's? Why? Is that bunny going to hop out freely back into the wild with its new mascara? No! That bunny will probably be left blind for the remainder of its life suffering in a metal cage. I actually cant even stress how much I got my eyes opened when I chose animal testing as my advocacy as a Richmond Centre Miss Earth NI 2017 Representative, it makes me ashamed that it has taken me until now to actually see the true effects of animal testing, I mean I always knew about it and knew it was horrible but after the videos and looking into it I done, it makes me feel so strongly about my advocacy and the change I want to make. I basically want to put the message across to young people that their Consumer Power can change Animal Testing - its in our hands. If I can educate the younger generation to stop buying from brands which test their products on animals, they can then educate their peers to do the same thing. If we stop buying from them brands their going to start asking 'Why?' We can answer their questions by emailing them telling them 'we don't support animal testing!' If their not selling, their not making profit, if their not making profit, their business wont be successful, if their business begins to go down hill it will force them to make the changes that we want to see.. STOP ANIMAL TESTING!

Today I decided to take my first two small steps using Consumer Power and through the PETA website I signed up for the Cruelty Free Shopping Guide of 2017, through a couple of easy steps I filled out my name and address and will be forwarded their guide to cruelty free shopping in the near future. This is a small step but it will give me a better insight into what brands are best to buy and which ones are cruelty free. Also today I discovered an app available for Android and IPhone called 'Bunny Free' this app is extremely easy to use, you simply type in the product brand and it will appear straight away if they are cruelty free or not. This app is great to have on the go when your out and about doing a bit of cosmetic shopping, because as I have mentioned before OUR consumer power can change the future of animal testing!!

I am super excited to start making small changes which could help significantly in the future with regards to our wildlife and the Earth's natural habitats. Please start by making the same two small changes I did, and within my upcoming blogs I will be supporting skincare which is promoting a change in animal testing - it's in our hands!

Until next time ..
